After — dressed stone fireplace, with a brick firebox laid in herringbone over encaustic tiles

The masonry wall was opened up to take the stove, with a lintel and an insulated flue up to the roof.

The firebox was built in herringbone brick over hydraulic mosaic, and the stone surround was made to the size of the opening.
